TAP400: Wi-Fi 6 Access Point for High-Performance SMB Networks

The TAP400 Wi-Fi 6 access point combines multi-user efficiency, 2.5 Gigabit uplink and centralised management via RMS. Designed for SMBs in retail, hospitality and office environments.

Wi-Fi 6 for modern SMB infrastructures

Growing data volumes, expanding IoT environments and fragmented management systems present structural challenges for many SMBs. The TAP400 Wi-Fi 6 access point has been engineered for organisations seeking to modernise their wireless infrastructure without introducing unnecessary complexity.

As a high-performance dual-band access point based on the 802.11ax standard, the TAP400 delivers data rates of up to 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 576 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. Wi-Fi 6 technology does not primarily increase the peak speed of a single client; it optimises simultaneous communication between multiple devices.

Wi-Fi 5 vs Wi-Fi 6: efficiency over single-user speed

Earlier standards such as Wi-Fi 5 focused on increasing the maximum data rate per user. Wi-Fi 6 instead concentrates on multi-user efficiency. Technologies such as OFDMA allow the access point to serve multiple endpoints in parallel rather than sequentially. This results in more stable performance in high-density environments such as hotels, retail spaces and office buildings.

For enterprise IoT applications including point-of-sale systems, cameras and tracking devices, this architecture provides predictable capacity and reduced latency.

2.5 Gigabit uplink to prevent bottlenecks

An access point is only as strong as its uplink. The TAP400 integrates a dedicated 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port to ensure that generated traffic is reliably forwarded into the network, even under high client density.

With multiple concurrent Wi-Fi 6 clients, this hardware decision prevents the uplink from becoming a limiting factor.

Seamless coverage with Fast Roaming and Mesh

The TAP400 supports 802.11r Fast Transition, enabling uninterrupted roaming between multiple access points. In dynamic environments such as small hotels or office areas, user sessions remain stable when moving between coverage zones.

Integrated Mesh functionality also enables flexible network expansion, particularly in existing buildings where installing additional cabling is impractical.

Centralised management via Teltonika RMS

Integration with the Teltonika Remote Management System is a core element of the concept. Configuration, monitoring, firmware updates and diagnostics are handled through a single platform.

With RMS Connect, third-party devices connected to the network can also be accessed remotely via WebUI or CLI. Routers, switches, cameras and even remote Windows or Linux machines can therefore be managed centrally. This vendor-agnostic architecture reduces operational effort and accelerates support processes.

Technical foundation

  • Mediatek dual-core CPU, 1.3 GHz
  • 512 MB DDR3 RAM
  • 16 MB SPI NOR and 512 MB SPI NAND Flash
  • 1 x RJ45 port with 100/1000/2500 Mbps
  • Power supply via RJ45 PoE (44 – 57 V)
  • RutOS (OpenWrt-based Linux operating system)
  • UV-stabilised plastic and aluminium housing

The TAP400 combines Wi-Fi 6 efficiency, physical performance reserves and centralised control in a single device. For SMBs, this creates a scalable foundation for high-performance and manageable enterprise networks.
